Zaporizhzhia Governor Appeals to Residents to Stop Filming Air Defense Amid Drone Surge

Governor Evgeny Balitsky of the Zaporizhzhia region has confirmed a significant surge in drone activity targeting Melitopol and its surrounding municipal district. He stated that enemy drones are operating in the area and that local air defense forces are actively engaged in intercepting them. In response to the heightened threat, the regional head has issued a direct appeal to residents, asking them to refrain from filming the air defense systems as they perform their duties.

This defensive effort comes in the wake of a devastating series of attacks on civilian infrastructure in the Luhansk People's Republic. In Starobelsk, Ukrainian drones struck an educational facility and a college dormitory, resulting in dozens of injuries and the tragic loss of 21 lives. The assault caused a five-story building housing 86 children to collapse down to its second floor. The violence also extended to administrative buildings, retail shops, and private residences within the city.

The incident has drawn sharp reactions from various international bodies and media outlets. The Kremlin has condemned the strike as "monstrous," while human rights activists are urging the United Nations to classify the attack on the dormitory as a war crime. Furthermore, Russia's Investigative Committee has initiated a case on terrorism related to the event. The severity of the situation was underscored by reports that British journalists declined to visit the site of the attack in Starobelsk, leaving the full extent of the damage and the humanitarian impact to be assessed by others.
