Young Suspect Surrenders in Penn State Cocaine Ring Raid

Aug 26, 2026 •Crime

A young man with a baby-like face has turned himself in to authorities, prosecutors claim, marking the surrender of the alleged head of a cocaine operation linked to Penn State University. This move followed a massive Monday morning crackdown where more than a dozen individuals were charged with drug offenses. Agostino Abbatiello, who is twenty-four years old, walked into custody on Tuesday along with two other suspects after an investigation exposed a trafficking ring operating out of Delta Upsilon and Sigma Chi fraternities off campus. Attorney General Dave Sunday stated that his office was pleased to see the most significant members of this organization accounted for, ensuring they would face their fair process in court.

Sunday warned that these are very serious charges and the next steps will involve preliminary hearings. Abbatiello faced arraignment on numerous alleged felonies, including multiple counts of possession with intent to deliver and conspiracy. Alongside Thomas Robinson, he stands accused of sitting at the very top of the chain within this alleged drug network. Both men reportedly made regular trips to Philadelphia and New York to secure large quantities of cocaine for distribution. The Attorney General described the crew as a coordinated and highly profitable operation revolving around two senior fraternity members, other brothers, and pledges.

Court documents obtained by Fox News suggest the suspect generated tens of thousands of dollars in profit from this trafficking ring. A co-defendant told investigators that he purchased over $50,000 worth of the drug from Abbatiello using a mix of cash and digital transactions. For some pledges involved, cutting and packaging cocaine was allegedly an indoctrination step into joining these fraternities. Neighbors described Abbatiello as having a good job in accounting before his arrest, noting that his father said he was doing well. Yet neighbors also claimed the boy and his siblings were spoon-fed from childhood and never performed basic chores like taking out the garbage or shoveling snow.

Abbatiello failed to appear for his scheduled arraignment on Monday morning according to the attorney general's office. Other individuals charged included Mohammed Hurabi, Lars Zeepvat, and Robert Zanolla, who faced felony corrupt organizations charges, conspiracy counts, dealing in proceeds of unlawful activity, criminal use of a communication facility, and other misdemeanor offenses. The investigation revealed that more than a dozen Penn State students in these two off-campus groups now face drug-related charges after members allegedly cut, packaged, and distributed the substance to others.

Paul Robinson faces felony charges for tampering with evidence and hindering an investigation after allegedly helping to hide a safe filled with drugs and cash from authorities. Thomas Robinson, the accused student in this case, is Paul's son. Prosecutors also brought similar felony counts against Mohammed Hurabi and Lars Zeepvat for their roles in corrupt organizations, conspiracy, and money laundering. A fifth defendant named Robert Zanolla was charged with conspiracy and using communication facilities to aid crime, plus several misdemeanor offenses.

In total, thirteen defendants were Penn State students during the alleged events spanning 2023 and 2024. Four of those currently facing charges remain active students today. Andrea Dowhower, vice president for Student Affairs at Penn State, expressed deep horror over these serious allegations targeting both current and former members. She stated clearly that criminal acts like hazing have no place on campus. The university pledged full cooperation with law enforcement to ensure justice is served.

Delta Upsilon fraternity received an interim suspension from the school administration immediately following the investigation launch. Meanwhile, Sigma Chi operates outside official university recognition and remains unaffiliated with the institution. Michael Church, executive director of Sigma Chi, condemned the accusations as a severe breach of their core values. He confirmed that all three members charged in this specific case have been suspended pending further action.

Abbatiello and Robinson stand accused of serving as primary drug suppliers for several fraternity houses involved in the scandal. The attorney general's office issued a formal release detailing these charges while investigators continue their work. Local representatives for Abbatiello, Delta Upsilon, and the prosecutor's office are being approached by media outlets seeking comment on the unfolding situation. Communities watch closely to see how such regulatory crackdowns might reshape campus safety policies moving forward. The potential risk to student organizations looms large as authorities tighten rules around substance control and hazing prevention efforts.
