Yemeni Forces Regain Strategic District Amid Escalating Clashes
Yemeni forces claim a strategic district while clashes with Houthis grow fiercer across the nation. More than 60 people died in these fights, including many civilians, as violence intensified in Taiz province. Government troops have fought hard against rebel groups on multiple fronts, hitting hardest in Taiz and Hodeidah along the western Red Sea coast.
Military units under Yemen's internationally recognised government pushed back rebels to retake Hais district south of Hodeidah. This area links the provinces of Hodeidah, Taiz, and Ibb together, according to Turkiye's Anadolu news agency. The move marks a significant shift in control over this critical zone.
Rashad al-Alimi, chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, stated that armed forces can restore full control over territory. He warned the Houthis they will bear consequences for their actions. Taiz will not serve as a corridor for Iran-backed backers, he added. His words paint a grim picture of what happens next if miscalculations continue. The group faces complete collapse according to his stark assessment.
Tit-for-tat attacks erupted last week and the latest fighting continues right now. Air raids and ground offensives tear through villages as government troops clash with Iran-backed rebels. Fayad al-Numan, deputy undersecretary of Yemen's Ministry of Information, said troops captured dozens of Houthi fighters in nearby al-Jarahi district. Government forces later launched a counteroffensive to secure the area.

Strikes hit Houthi positions across Taiz and Lahj on Saturday without pause. Media reports say military drones destroyed rebel reinforcements south of al-Jarahi while ground assaults moved forward simultaneously. Powerful explosions shook Taiz as reported by Al Jazeera correspondent Sunday. The Yemeni Defence Ministry deployed new weapons systems to turn the tide against entrenched fighters.
Colonel Majed al-Nozaili, a military spokesman, said forces targeted a Houthi site in response to violations and escalation. Renewed clashes have taken a heavy toll on innocent people living nearby. Clashes in Taiz killed more than 60 people including civilians on Saturday, AFP news agency reported. State news agency Saba'a added that Houthi shelling of a civilian gathering near the road linking Taiz and Aden killed four others and injured nine.
About 1,800 families have been displaced over the past two days as fighting escalated in Taiz, OCHA said. The United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs tracks these movements closely. Any Houthi movement toward the Bab al-Mandeb strait would face harsh attrition, the Yemeni government warned separately. Communities stand on fragile ground while conflict rages around them daily.
