Woman Shot Dead Hours After Reporting Ex-Boyfriend for Sexual Assault
A 28-year-old woman was shot dead inside her car less than 12 hours after she reported her ex-boyfriend to police for sexual assault. The incident, which has shocked local authorities and residents, occurred in Levittown, a suburb of Philadelphia, where the victim, Yuan Yuan Lu, lived. Lu had broken up with Yujun Ren, 32, after alleging he sexually assaulted her during a visit to his home in south Philadelphia last week. Her cousin, Natalie Truong, recounted how Lu had expressed relief after reporting the assault to police on Saturday, saying she felt 'safe' and 'better' after sharing her story with investigators.

Early Sunday morning, just hours after the police report, authorities say Ren stalked Lu in his car and followed her back to her home. Surveillance footage from a Ring camera obtained by detectives shows a vehicle believed to belong to Ren closely following Lu's car at 5:49 a.m. on Sunday. Police allege that Ren approached Lu as she sat in her car outside her home and shot her in the head. Ren reportedly turned himself in to police several hours later, accompanied by an attorney, and led officers to Lu's body. When officers arrived, they found Lu seated in the driver's seat with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ren told police he was angry after Lu said 'hurtful things' to him and allegedly took their pets. He claimed he killed Lu by accident, stating he had intended only to scare her by waving a gun around. According to the Bucks County District Attorney's Office, Ren's aunt surrendered a 9mm handgun to police, which Lu had previously told investigators she feared he carried everywhere. The DA's Office filed a criminal complaint against Ren the same day he surrendered, charging him with murder, possession of an instrument of crime, and stalking.

Yuan Yuan Lu had moved to the United States in 2009 from a small village in south China, seeking a better life. Her cousin, Natalie Truong, described Lu as a hardworking individual who mastered English in school and developed an entrepreneurial spirit. She began by selling homemade Chinese cuisine from food carts on local college campuses, later working in a bubble tea shop and at a nursing home. Lu was also devoted to her pets, a corgi named Dundun and a cat named Milk Cap, and often shared her culinary creations with Truong at restaurants across Philadelphia.
Truong expressed deep sorrow over Lu's death, noting that Lu had not often discussed her relationship with Ren. The pair had dated for a year, and they met through Lu's nursing home job. Truong lamented that Lu's death was a tragedy, saying she wished police had had more time to investigate the alleged sexual assault. She also revealed that Lu's father had been in China for months, staying with her mother and brother, leaving Lu without immediate family support during her final months. Truong was the one to inform Lu's parents of her death, a task she described as 'heartbreaking,' emphasizing that no parent should have to learn of a child's death through a phone call.

The Bucks County District Attorney, Joe Khan, called the incident a 'sobering reminder of the lethal nature of domestic violence.' He praised the coordinated response from local police departments, which led to Ren's swift arrest. Truong has since launched a GoFundMe page to support Lu's family, highlighting her cousin's kindness, resilience, and the profound impact of her loss. The case has sparked renewed discussions about the risks faced by survivors of domestic violence and the urgent need for stronger protections and faster responses from law enforcement.
