WNBA Finals Demand Surges 600% Despite Awkward Atlanta Scheduling Conflicts

Oct 29, 2026 •Sports

The Golden State Valkyries have a shot at their first championship on Thursday, but the clock is ticking at an awkward hour. Game 6 of the WNBA Finals tips off at 12:30 p.m. ET. That is hours before the Atlanta Hawks face the Cleveland Cavaliers at 8 p.m. in the same building. It is a logistical headache, yet it has not cooled the market.

Fans are still showing up. Despite the unorthodox start time, the 17,000-seat State Farm Arena sold out as soon as tickets hit the market on Monday. Now, the game is a hot commodity on secondary markets. This is not the first time the Dream have juggled a schedule this series. Game 3 moved from Oct. 22 to Oct. 21 to dodge a concert. Game 4 shifted to an afternoon slot last Saturday to clear the way for the Hawks’ home opener against the Houston Rockets.

The demand is surprising given the chaos. Ticket sales for the 2026 WNBA Finals are up more than 600% compared with last year’s Finals between the Las Vegas Aces and Phoenix Mercury on StubHub. The Valkyries are in their second season. The Dream are chasing their first title since 2013. The Aces had dominated the previous five seasons, appearing in the final three times. That scarcity drives the price.

Forty-two percent of sales for games in Atlanta come from buyers outside Georgia. Fans across the Southeast are tuning in, even with the uncertainty hanging over the schedule. According to ticketdata, the get-in price dropped 59% over the last three days. It bottomed at $38 before climbing back to $71 on Thursday morning. The peak was $189 late Monday evening.

The league had to scramble to find space. The Dream have drawn sold-out crowds throughout these Finals, forcing the organization to maneuver for larger venues. The Athletic reported the Hawks could have moved their Thursday night game to Friday. That would have created a Friday-Saturday back-to-back for both NBA teams. Worse, the rescheduled matchup would have landed on opening night of NBA Cup group play.

Playing at their normal home in College Park was another option. But thousands of fans would have been locked out due to the lack of seats. Other Georgia-area venues like Georgia Tech’s McCamish Pavilion and the Georgia State Convention Center were considered, per CBS Sports. In the end, Angel Reese stated her wish to stay at State Farm Arena if it could work.
