Widow Demands Investigation into Water Source at Fatal Crash Site

Sep 18, 2026 •Crime

The widow of James Wehr, a car influencer and owner of one of the largest weekly auto shows globally, is calling for an official investigation into the crash that killed her husband and 22-year-old Alexis Kramer last week. Emma Wehr issued this demand through her attorney, Corey Higgins. The focus is on the water covering the road where the accident occurred.

'The source of that water has yet to be identified,' Higgins stated on Instagram Thursday. 'Our firm is actively investigating how that water came to be there, how long that condition had existed, and who may ultimately bear responsibility.' He emphasized that several important questions remain unanswered regarding the crash inquiry. The legal team is also looking at the safety of the vehicle James was driving, including how its systems performed during the impact.

Wehr, 27, owned South OC Cars and Coffee. He was taking a joyride with Lexi Kramer on Saturday in Irvine before losing control of his 2019 supercar. The car slammed into a tree, splitting in half and bursting into flames around 12:20 am. Police told TMZ that Wehr was behind the wheel at the moment of collision because a female passenger sat in the front seat when officers pulled him over earlier that night.

Irvine Police Department officer Ziggy Azarcon told KTLA 5 that speed played a major role. 'The vehicle took off at a high rate of speed on Culver Drive and lost control,' Azarcon said. It struck a curb, hit a tree, split in two, and caught fire. Dashcam footage showed Wehr speeding from a traffic light before hitting a wet patch of road. He braked hard but still swerved into the tree, sparking flames immediately.

An hour before the fatal crash, Newport Beach Police pulled Wehr over. A spokesperson for IPD said he received a warning at that time. An investigation is still ongoing. The family identified Lexi as the second victim. They said the two had met on Instagram before Wehr flew her from Florida to California just days before the tragedy.

Lexi's family told the California Post that Wehr had mentioned his divorce from Emma, which prompted her trip. Her Instagram bio listed her as a 2026 Hooters calendar girl. She shared his passion for cars and motorcycles. She had even attended his popular auto show earlier that day. '[Wehr] talked to [Lexi] every day,' a family member said. 'Finally he got her to fly out to California.'

'She loved the car community, so it's such a tragedy that that's what ended her,' the relative added. Floods of emotional tributes poured in for Wehr after the deadly events. Friends and family called him an icon in the auto world. His wife Emma posted on social media: 'James, I never thought the day would come that I'd have to say such a final goodbye.' She continued, 'Getting the opportunity to love you will always be the greatest blessing in my life.

A grieving wife, Emma Wehr, shared a cascade of heartbreaking images yesterday. She included pictures of James and her on their wedding day alongside a raw tribute to the man she lost. Her message was clear and devastating. 'You grew up with me and opened my eyes to everything this world had to offer,' she wrote. 'You possessed such a zest for life and drive like no one I've ever met.' She called him smart, kind, funny, loving, and genuinely one of the best people she knew. 'Like I said in my vows, I'm so grateful to have gotten the chance to live my life at the same time that you lived yours,' Emma stated. 'Whether it's in this lifetime or the next my heart will always find its way to you.' She ended by telling him to rest easy, my love.

James Wehr had posted a video clip just one hour before the fatal crash showed a police car parked behind his black supercar at Newport Beach. Police confirmed he was pulled over and given a warning before the incident occurred. The details paint a picture of a normal evening turned tragic in seconds.

Sarah Wehr, the mother of the deceased entrepreneur, described her son as a magnificent man. She emphasized his love for people, family, and friends that was second to none. His sister, Sophie Wehr, took to social media to post a collection of childhood photos with her brother. 'James, thank you,' she wrote. 'I'll live every day with you in mind and do everything I can to make you proud.'

Lexi's sister, Gracie Kramer, posted on Facebook that Lexi was so much more than just her best friend. She described her late sibling as all of her love, heart, attitude, and humor wrapped into a smaller, more chaotic, less filtered package. 'She was my other half,' the sister wrote. Gracie recalled how people always told them they wished their bond with siblings could be as close as theirs was. 'It was always just the two of us,' she said. 'I wish now I could go back and express to her more about how much that really meant to me.' She added that when either of them faced hard times, they were always curled up in each other's beds trying to figure it out together. 'I don't know how to figure this one out without her,' Gracie admitted. 'I don't know what to do now without her. The love of my life.'

Kimberli Gandy, a friend of Lexi's, wrote on Instagram that the 22-year-old was so unbelievably full of life. She noted that Lexi and James Wehr had met for dinner at Nobu and drinks at the Pendry Hotel hours before the crash allegedly occurred under false pretenses regarding his divorce status. Gandy said she believed he was divorcing his wife at the time.

Gandy described Lexi as joy, chaos, kindness, laughter, and sunshine energy that made people love being around her. 'She was so vibrant and full of passion,' she wrote. 'That is part of what makes this hurt so much.' She concluded by saying she felt shattered that she had been taken from them. It feels cruel and unfair to many families watching the news unfold right now. The Daily Mail reached out to the Irvine Police Department and Higgins for comment regarding these developing events.
