White House gifts Marco Rubio 68 versions of viral meme
Marco Rubio now holds sixty-eight new jobs, on top of his official ones. The White House recently handed the secretary of state a gold-framed collage to celebrate his fifty-fifth birthday. This gift features dozens of versions of the viral "Rubio realizing" meme that has turned President Donald Trumps top diplomat into an Iranian ayatollah or even an astronaut.

The original unaltered photo sits right in the center of this sixty-eight panel mosaic. It shows Rubio slumped on a couch inside the Oval Office back earlier this year. Trump signed it with gold ink and added a presidential endorsement that simply read You are great. Surrounding that core image is a resume that rivals Barbie itself.
The collection includes Rubio dressed as Robocop, an astronaut, and the White House Easter Bunny. There is even Cardinal Rubio getting ready for a papal conclave. One panel shows him bundled up as the leader of Greenland while holding a sign that asks people to please stop making memes about him. The State Department gave this gift in May but it only became widely known after Axios reporter Marc Caputo posted a picture on X.

Having nearly seventy imaginary gigs might sound excessive, yet the joke lands hard for a Cabinet official who has already taken on many real roles. Rubio currently serves as secretary of state and acting national security advisor. He previously worked double duty as acting archivist and administrator for the U.S. Agency for International Development. The internet seems to agree he can handle a few more duties besides these serious ones.

This meme cycle started with a very serious moment on February 28, 2025. Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Rubio, and other officials met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office that day. A photo from this contentious meeting captured Rubio sitting low on a couch with his hands interlocked. His expression made the internet quickly interpret him as a man coming to an uncomfortable realization.

Then came the heavily Photoshopped memes as major jobs opened up in reality or otherwise. When Venezuelas Nicolás Maduro was captured, meme Rubio appeared dressed to take over that country. When Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz announced he would not seek re-election, Rubio showed up in blaze orange hunting gear with a shotgun included.
Rubio admitted he was not initially thrilled by the photograph that launched it all. He recently told Lara Trump on Fox News My View that the meme thing was interesting because he hated that picture when it first came out. He explained that the Oval Office couch played a big part in his slumped posture. If you do not have a pillow behind your back, you kinda sink according to him.

The secretary of state eventually surrendered to the court of public opinion and admitted it turned fine and funny later on. He also revealed that Dan Scavino made a nice board for him which framed this online frenzy forever. Since Scavino created that board they have had to update it constantly. This raises an obvious problem since Rubio may already need a bigger frame to hold everything.
