Walmart Online Sales Surge 24% on Price, Speed
Walmart's online sales took off hard in the second quarter as CEO John Furner pointed straight at price, speed and convenience. The numbers tell the story clearly: U.S. e-commerce revenue jumped 24%. This surge happened across the retailer's main business units. Global figures showed a solid 23% climb, pushed by store-fulfilled pickup and delivery plus its online marketplace. The report came out Thursday.

Furner told reporters that customers are voting with their wallets for these exact traits. "Our team delivered another good quarter, and we continue to make steady progress on the long-term value drivers of our business," he said in a company statement. He noted that years of e-commerce growth proves shoppers pick Walmart because they get broad assortment plus those three key benefits. Basically, customers can have it all at this store.

The club division known as Sam's Club U.S. also saw big gains. Sales rose 26%, driven by continued expansion in pickup and delivery options for its members. International markets performed well too, with e-commerce sales climbing 19%. That global growth came mostly from store-fulfilled pickup and delivery services.

Revenue hit $187.9 billion, a rise of 5.9% compared to last year. The company raised its outlook for the fiscal year. John David Rainey, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Walmart Inc., weighed in with this assessment: "Our business model is only getting stronger and more durable, and we're pleased to raise our guidance for the year." It looks like the retailer has found a rhythm that keeps pulling people back in.
