Victor Valley High School Football Team Suspended After Gestures at Fans
The entire football squad at a California high school is suspended after viral video footage captured them making crude gestures toward opposing fans. Victor Valley High School's team was forced to forfeit their next contest following an incident involving offensive behavior during their latest match. They had just secured a 20-7 victory against Apple Valley High School on Friday night and were awarded the Bell trophy when things went south, according to KTLA 5 reports.
The core issue arose during celebrations where players and the mascot threw up fingers at opposition supporters. Carl Coles, Superintendent of the Victor Valley Union High School District, issued a statement emphasizing that intensity and passion must never come at the expense of character or respect. He noted clearly that the line was crossed on Friday, September 11, when members of the team behaved in an unsportsmanlike manner toward opponents and their fans with offensive language included.
Social media clips circulating on platforms like X showed the celebrating group running across the field while directing insults at Apple Valley supporters. One specific video highlighted the Victor Valley Jackrabbit mascot seemingly flipping the middle finger as they walked past cheerleaders and stands. Another TikTok clip displayed the Jackrabbit mascot appearing to tackle the Apple Valley mascot, a red apple figure, down onto the track floor right in front of the fans.

Coles confirmed that both the varsity football players and coaching staff faced a one-week suspension from all football activities. He explained that this decision reflects how seriously the district holds athletic programs accountable for their actions. Representing Victor Valley High School on the field is a privilege, he said, and with that privilege comes the responsibility to uphold community standards. We expect athletes to compete hard but we also demand they compete with class.
The suspension meant halting all practices for the week and forfeiting their home game scheduled against Brea Olinda High School. Over the coming days, school leaders and district administration will work directly with coaches to review the athletic code of conduct. There will be accountability, there will be reflection, and there will be a clear expectation that this cannot happen again.

We are proud of our student-athletes, but athletic success cannot take precedence over character." This sentiment came from a formal statement issued by the district. The officials noted that their duty as educators involves building better athletes and better human beings. That dual goal was clearly stated in their response to Friday night's events.
Derek Marshall, a congressional candidate running for office, appeared alongside the VVHS Jackrabbit mascot during the Bell Game on Friday. His presence highlighted the local community's focus on both sports and civic duty right after the incident unfolded. The school faced immediate scrutiny following the game.
"On behalf of Victor Valley Union High School District and Victor Valley High School, we offer our sincere apology to the players, students, staff, coaches, parents and community members of Apple Valley High School, as well as to the proud Jackrabbit supporters," the official document read. The words were direct and addressed a wide range of concerned people in that region.

Coles added another layer to the explanation regarding the hosting duties. He stated that VVHS "fell short of the standard of respect, sportsmanship and hospitality" that their "neighboring community deserved." That quote reflects a specific failure in how they treated Apple Valley guests during the event.
The statement went on to say that the behavior on Friday does not reflect the values of the school's teachers, staff, administrators or students and alumni. Those groups were explicitly separated from the actions taken by some individuals involved in the game night chaos. The Daily Mail reached out to Victor Valley Union High School District for comment after receiving this initial response.
