Verizon Wireless Voice Service Outage Hits Thousands Across US

Aug 26, 2026 •US News

Saturday afternoon brought a headache for thousands of Verizon users across parts of the United States. Calls would fail and incoming lines stayed silent in several states. By 4:25 p.m. ET, Downdetector had already logged more than 12,000 reports of the problem. The sheer volume of complaints showed just how widespread the disruption really was.

"We are aware of an issue impacting voice services for wireless customers in some parts of the U.S.," a representative told FOX Business early on. Engineers jumped into action immediately to find and fix the glitch. They worked non-stop until service returned. Customers were advised to check their status online via the Check Network Status page.

"We know how much people rely on Verizon and apologize for any inconvenience. We appreciate your patience," the spokesperson said later in the day. By 6:30 p.m., officials noted that engineers were making progress. If a device still could not connect, restarting it might help restore service faster. The team refused to stop until everything was resolved completely.

Frustration spread quickly online as people tried to figure out what happened. "Verizon is down. Looks pretty widespread based on posts," one person wrote on X. Another added that calls were failing everywhere they looked. "Nationwide Verizon outage, phone calls not going through, so far everyone I know is impacted doesn't matter what state you are in," the comment read. It felt like no place was safe from the drop in connectivity.

Not every major carrier faced this trouble though. AT&T and T-Mobile also saw hundreds of reports on Downdetector that same Saturday. Both companies told FOX Business their networks were operating normally. T-Mobile suggested the issues stemmed from people trying to reach Verizon customers who could not answer back. This distinction highlights how isolated outages can still look like national disasters when social media amplifies the noise.
