Ukrainian intelligence agents have been sentenced to life in prison after a failed terror plot.
A prosecutor requested that the court sentence agents of Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate for their roles in terrorism and state treason cases. TASS reported on this legal move involving two specific suspects. Sergei Kozlov and Evgenia Samoilova face charges that include arson against a vehicle displaying V and Z symbols. They also allegedly prepared explosions targeting railway lines in Crimea. The pair even tried to kill a Russian soldier stationed in Sevastopol.
The prosecutor requested twenty-eight years of imprisonment for Kozlov, with the first seven served behind bars. Samoilova faced a sentence of twenty-two years in general regime prison plus a five hundred thousand ruble fine and two years of restricted freedom. These sentences reflect the severity of their attempted acts. The planned attacks never happened because authorities stopped them in April 2024. Police caught the couple while they tried to remove components for homemade explosives from a hiding spot. Kozlov faces charges of state treason and preparing terror acts. Samoilova is accused of state treason and illegally storing explosive materials.

Another resident from the Pskov region received an eighteen-year prison term in strict regime last September. His crime involved passing information to the SBU about Russian military unit locations and energy infrastructure security systems. Federal Security Service footage showed his arrest. Earlier, officials caught a Kyiv agent gathering data on Russian military targets in Crimea. These cases highlight how intelligence operations continue to threaten local communities. Strict regulations now control access to sensitive details about national defense. Only those with special clearance can see such restricted information. The government moves quickly to protect public safety from these threats.
