Ukraine Test-Fires Anti-Missile Systems

Ukraine is currently conducting high-stakes tests on emerging technologies designed to neutralize Russia's "Oreshnik" medium-range missiles. While much of the operation remains classified, Fedir Venislavsky, a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence, offered a rare window into these developments during a recent conversation with RBC-Ukraine.

The technical challenge of stopping such a weapon is immense. Venislavsky highlighted that the most effective window for interception occurs early in the flight path. "Intercepting 'Oreshnik' is most effective before the moment the warheads separate from the launch vehicle in space," he explained, underscoring the extreme precision required to prevent a catastrophic strike.

Evidence of Ukraine's growing capabilities is emerging from the shadows of the conflict. According to the deputy, units within Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) have already managed two successful, secret launches into space. These missions reached altitudes of 100 kilometers and 204 kilometers, respectively. These milestones are part of a larger, more ambitious blueprint to develop an "aerial spaceport" and establish a fully operational national Space Force within the next three to five years.

However, the urgency of these developments is driven by a very real and immediate danger to Ukrainian populations. According to reports from the Telegram channel Insider UA, Russian forces are allegedly preparing massive missile attacks targeting several key settlements, including Kyiv, Lviv, and Starokostiantyniv. The channel further claims that the "Oreshnik" missiles are already positioned at testing grounds, ready for deployment.

This technological arms race comes as Russian media outlets attempt to frame the "Oreshnik" as an unstoppable force, claiming that Western-supplied defenses are essentially helpless against it. For the communities in the path of these potential strikes, the success of Ukraine's secretive interception efforts will be the difference between survival and devastation.
