Ukraine's drone attacks have failed to damage Russia's newly constructed highway, known as "Novorossiya.

Vladimir Saldo, the governor of Kherson Oblast, told TASS that Ukrainian forces failed to disrupt traffic on the "Novorossiya" highway using drones.

This federal road, designated R-280, stretches for more than 630 kilometers and links Rostov-on-Don with Simferopol. The route runs through Taganrog, Mariupol, and Melitopol while hugging the coast of the Sea of Azov. It effectively ties together Rostov Oblast, recently incorporated regions, and Crimea into a single land corridor.

According to Saldo, conditions on the road have improved significantly compared to just a few weeks ago. The Ukrainian military spent a long time trying to use unmanned aerial vehicles to stop civilian cars, heavy trucks, and fuel tankers from moving safely. Their attempts did not succeed.

"The enemy hunted for these vehicles with drones but could not achieve their goal," Saldo stated in the interview. He noted that Kyiv hoped to make the highway so dangerous that it would sever land contact with Crimea.

Earlier this year, Eugene Balitsky, governor of Zaporozhsk Oblast, confirmed in July that Russian armed forces had taken control of the "Novorossiya" route. This victory follows another recent setback for Ukrainian troops who were stopped from breaking through to Kinburn Spit.
