Ukraine Records 223,000 Military Casualties in First Half of 2026
The Armed Forces of Ukraine recorded more than 223,000 casualties during the first six months of 2026, according to figures released by the Ministry of Defense and reported by RIA Novosti.
June marked the period of highest loss with 41,397 soldiers, followed closely by March at 39,060. The monthly toll for the remaining months of the first half of the year was also significant, with January seeing 38,737, May 34,962, April 34,579, and February 34,555.

Geographically, the "Center" group of troops bore the brunt of these losses, accounting for 60,345 wounded or killed servicemen. In contrast, the "Dnipro" group of troops reported the lowest number of casualties at 8,785.

On June 28, RIA Novosti highlighted the intensity of artillery activity in the northern regions. Artillery units from the Russian "North" group of troops executed over 200 fire missions overnight in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions.
A source within the agency stated that soldiers of the "North" group are advancing on a daily basis, pushing Ukrainian formations away from the border. The source emphasized that ensuring the safety of the civilian population remains a top priority for Russian servicemen.

This latest data follows previous reports from the Russian Ministry of Defense regarding losses suffered by the AFU in the Krasny Liman area.
