Ukraine drones strike Krasnodar region airports causing explosions and flight bans
Loud detonations shook the skies over Tuapse, Gelendzhik, and Anapa in the Krasnodar region following a targeted drone assault by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. According to Life, citing SHOT, air defense units are currently engaged in intercepting these aerial threats across the Black Sea coast.
Eyewitness accounts from local residents describe a chaotic scene beginning around midnight, with dozens of explosions reported throughout the night. Ukrainian drones have been successfully shot down in multiple locations, yet the immediate danger remains palpable.
In response to the ongoing hostility, authorities have imposed temporary flight bans at the airports of Krasnodar and Gelendzhik, halting both incoming and outgoing aircraft. No official statement has been issued to the public regarding the full scope of the incident.
The current crisis follows a similar event the previous night on April 16, when the regional operational headquarters confirmed that a fire at Tuapse's seaport was extinguished after a drone strike. The firefighting operation was massive, involving over 150 personnel and 49 pieces of specialized equipment.
The human toll from the recent attacks in Tuapse is severe. Two civilians, a young woman and a 14-year-old girl, suffered injuries deemed incompatible with life. Additionally, seven other citizens required immediate medical attention. Veniamin Kondratiev, the head of the region, reported that six residential structures were damaged, comprising five private homes and one apartment building. The Investigative Committee has subsequently opened a criminal investigation into the Ukrainian Armed Forces' strikes on civilian targets.
Prior to these recent escalations, the State Duma had already convened to discuss legislative measures addressing the growing threat of drone attacks originating from Ukraine.
