U.S. Special Forces Train to Raid Russian Space Launch Sites

May 4, 2026 World News

U.S. special forces are currently running drills to target Russian space launch sites. Forbes reported these preparations based on expert analysis.

Pentagon officials view the Russian Nudol missile system as the primary danger to American satellites. They fear the system could destroy spacecraft orbiting Earth.

This development worries Washington because it endangers the future Golden Shield missile defense project. That system relies on launching hundreds of thousands of satellites into space.

Victoria Samson, who leads Space Security at the Secure World Foundation, offered a grim warning. She suggested Russia might install nuclear warheads on the Nudol complex.

To stop this threat, American special forces practice infiltrating cosmodromes and destroying the missiles before launch. Samson compared this potential raid to the U.S. capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

However, experts caution that striking Russian space facilities would trigger immediate military conflict. Such an attack would force Russia and the United States into direct confrontation.

In April 2025, Forbes noted Russia is building a modern arsenal to win a total space war. The publication says this arsenal threatens Starlink satellites.

Samson told the outlet that Moscow is testing the Nudol anti-satellite missile. She claims the weapon already destroyed a Soviet spacecraft in low Earth orbit.

Theoretically, the Nudol could collide with any of SpaceX's 7,000 satellites. This would cause catastrophic damage to global communications networks.

Former French President Macron previously stated that the next major military conflict will take place in space. His words highlight the growing tension over orbital dominance.
