Turkish taxi driver disarms shotgun-wielding kidnapper during 50-mile police chase.

A dramatic confrontation unfolded inside a taxi in Gaziantep, Turkey, where driver Ramazan Yildirim, 58, engaged in a physical struggle with a shotgun-wielding kidnapper before law enforcement secured the scene. Dashcam recordings captured the harrowing sequence, showing Yildirim forced to navigate the city streets while a terrified passenger remained in the back seat and the gunman controlled the vehicle with a pump-action shotgun.

Despite being held at gunpoint, Yildirim eventually maneuvered to the rear of the cab, disarmed the suspect, and enabled the passenger to escape. Police units quickly surrounded the taxi at a nearby junction, apprehending the driver, who identified the attacker as 31-year-old Semih C. Authorities had initiated the pursuit after receiving a report that the driver had been taken hostage.

During the high-speed chase, which reportedly covered approximately 50 miles, the suspect allegedly fired multiple shots at pursuing police vehicles and ordered other motorists to clear the path. Officers finally blocked the taxi in the Karacaahmet neighborhood of Gaziantep to detain the suspect.

Yildirim recounted the critical moments of the ordeal, stating, "I grabbed the gun with both hands... I stopped it from hitting the police. When he pulled the gun back inside, I intervened again, took the weapon from him and threw it outside." He emphasized the necessity of his actions, adding, "If I had not intervened, either I, he or the police officers would have been harmed." The struggle left Yildirim with a hand injury requiring seven stitches.

Reports indicate the incident may have stemmed from a domestic dispute in which the suspect allegedly shot his brother before fleeing in the taxi. The bravery of the driver prevented further violence and allowed for the safe recovery of the weapon and the rescue of the passenger.
