Trump Transforms West Palm Beach Golf Club Into Secure Presidential Fortress

Oct 8, 2026 •Politics

President Donald Trump is turning his private Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach into a fortress meant for future presidents. The plan aims to create a secure retreat similar to Camp David, capable of hosting international summits and foreign dignitaries. Trump spoke about this shift while standing in the Oval Office with reporters nearby. He said the idea did not come from him personally but arrived directly from federal security officials. Law enforcement agents approached him first, and he agreed to their proposal immediately.

'This wouldn't be for me. This would be for all future presidents,' Trump stated. 'This was suggested to me by the military and Secret Service... and if they want to do that, I'd be certainly willing.' The facility has been operating successfully for over two years now. It offers tactical advantages standard golf courses simply cannot match. Trump emphasized that the location lacks surrounding houses or high-rise buildings that could compromise safety. He pointed out there are no windows hiding people behind them and nothing looming overhead to threaten the site.

This security posture matters because 2024 saw Secret Service agents stop an assassination attempt on Trump at that very course. A suspect waited for hours with a scoped rifle before being stopped. Beyond physical protection, the location offers unmatched logistical convenience for official travel. Clinton held the Middle East peace summit there in 2000 alongside Ehud Barak and Yasser Arafat. The site sits just two minutes from an airport, allowing leaders to spend the weekend right there as a true retreat. Security officials view it as about as safe as they could possibly get.

Harvey Oyer, a lawyer representing the Trump Golf Club, noted that no specific name has been picked out yet for the new facility. A Fox News reporter joked with Trump during their meeting and asked if he would call it Camp Trump. Trump did not respond directly to that comment about renaming the site. He called the idea great and said it will be used a lot. The White House confirmed the retreat is being built so future presidents can hold important meetings and use the amenities of this world-class property. Future leaders using the resort as their own get free memberships to the club automatically.

Trump does not visit Camp David as often as other presidents have in the past. Most recently, he used that location to host a Cabinet meeting back in July. The project will be finished after Trump leaves office. He is stepping out of his role before completion arrives.
