Trump Releases Senator's Phone Number, Demands Daylight Savings Bill Pass

Oct 4, 2026 •Politics

President Donald Trump took to Truth Social this week and posted Sen. Tom Cotton's personal cell phone number from Arkansas. He did this while pushing hard for legislation that would end daylight savings time. The bill faces a hurdle in the Senate because it stalled last October. Trump calls Cotton a friend but blames him for stopping the Sunshine Protection Act from reaching a vote.

"For some reason, Tom is stopping the Bill and, in the Senate, it's very easy to do, it only takes one!" Trump wrote on his platform. He added that the measure should pass with overwhelming bipartisan support. "So, everyone in Arkansas, a State I love, and won 3 times, the last by 34 points, tell Tom to, GET IT DONE!" The post urged voters to contact Cotton directly using the number provided.

Trump doubled down on his pressure campaign Saturday while speaking with reporters at the White House before heading to Ohio on Marine One. He argued that Americans are tired of fiddling with their clocks twice a year. "We want to get away from this ridiculous way and custom of, every twice a year, turning your clocks back, turning your clocks forward, being late for dinner, being late for very important meetings," he said. To him, the whole practice is just absurd.

He claimed people want more evening light but that they hate changing clocks even more. "People want to have light in the evening," Trump stated. "But really, what they want more than that, more than that by a lot, they don't want to have to go around changing clocks." The House passed its version of the bill back in July with 308 votes against 117. That vote showed strong bipartisan backing. However, the Senate has not touched the measure since referring it to a committee.

The Senate remains out of session until November 3. They cannot vote on the bill before the midterm elections end. Trump listed many benefits for permanent daylight savings time. He said ending the clock changes would help decrease robbery and murder rates. He also argued it would reduce car accidents, especially those involving pedestrians. Furthermore, he claimed it lowers risk for cardiac issues, stroke, and seasonal depression.

This latest failure to pass marks another setback for Trump regarding the SAVE America Act. The bill has bipartisan support but still lacks a signature from the president. After Trump called out Cotton, the Arkansas senator stood by his decision on X. "No one likes changing the clock, me included," Cotton posted. He noted that Congress had tried permanent daylight savings time before and repealed it each time Americans faced absurdly late sunrises in winter.

Arkansans do not want their children going to school in pitch darkness, according to Cotton. He said he will always put Arkansas first. This is not the first time Trump has shared a lawmaker's cell phone number publicly. In 2015 during his presidential campaign, he gave out then-Sen. Lindsey Graham's number at a South Carolina rally. That happened after Graham called Trump a jackass on CBS that morning. Fox News Digital reached out to the White House for comment but did not hear back immediately.
