Trump Plans New AI Czar Leading Military-Style Force

Sep 19, 2026 •US News

Donald Trump announced plans for an "AI Force" led by a new official known as the "AI czar." This move comes while artificial intelligence faces growing worry among Americans everywhere. The president stated he wants to protect and push forward this technology, which he calls the next Industrial Revolution key to American wealth. He did not share specific details on how this group will work or when the appointment happens.

"We will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "Rather, we will cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows!" He compared his new AI team to the Space Force he built during his first term. This group would sit inside the military structure.

Trump already had a top adviser named David Sacks. The venture capitalist stepped down earlier this year but now serves as an outside advisor. Sacks currently chairs Trump's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. Both men have pushed back against strict rules for AI development.

Tensions are high across the United States right now. Leaders from major tech firms recently asked for a slower pace in building these systems. They fear rapid progress could make safety impossible to maintain. One researcher at Anthropic warned there is more than a 10 percent chance the technology "could kill all humans" within ten years. Trump dismissed that warning as a hoax during a call with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.

"The robots will not be taking over," Trump said on Monday. "The AI will not be taking over the rest of the world." Sacks told CBS News that fears about harm are exaggerated. "I think this is becoming a panic," he said in an interview. He suggested people should not worry so much about regulation hurting innovation.

Data centers face another battle with local residents. These facilities use vast amounts of natural resources and drive up energy bills for neighbors. Community leaders across the nation have pushed back hard on their construction. Lawmakers from both parties are now united by these complaints ahead of November's midterm elections. On Saturday, Trump attacked those criticisms directly. He called the buildings "prestigious."

"Higher Salaries, Lower Taxes, and Safer Streets, was the result," Trump said about the sites. He echoed comments made last month where he claimed communities rejecting them would "end up being backwards and poor." Despite calls to slow down, his announcement shows a clear stance favoring growth over regulation. He sees this technology as essential for beating China in global competition. The issue will remain central when Trump meets with Chinese President Xi Jinping next week in Washington, DC.
