Trump Administration Claims Border Streak Of Zero Releases Continues

Aug 26, 2026 •Politics

President Donald Trump's administration claims it has gone 15 straight months without a single release at the border as of Thursday. That streak stands firm through July.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin says daily apprehensions have dropped 94% compared to Joe Biden's tenure. Those numbers sit at the lowest point in three decades.

"Again this month, the results are clear: President Trump's border security agenda is restoring order and putting the safety of the American people first," Mullin declared in a statement released by his office. "DHS remains focused on enforcing our immigration laws, securing the border, and ensuring those who enter our country illegally are removed swiftly." He added that thanks to strong leadership from the President, they now possess the most secure border in history.

Seizures of contraband at the border jumped 26% in July under Trump compared to the previous administration. Authorities pulled cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, fentanyl, and marijuana from smugglers crossing the line. U.S. Customs and Border Protection also helped enforce new tariff policies, flagging $23 billion in duties for collection during that single month alone.

"Clear policy, strong enforcement, and dedicated frontline personnel are delivering results at our borders," CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott said. "With the support of President Trump and Secretary Mullin, CBP is securing our nation against illegal crossings, dangerous individuals, and illicit drugs while keeping lawful trade and travel moving." These outcomes prove what happens when border security becomes a true national priority.

The Trump team continues to push for expanded immigration enforcement efforts. Last month, the House moved toward codifying several of Trump's executive orders into law. The Permanent Trump Secure Border Act would criminalize visa overstays and raise penalties for unlawful entry. It effectively ends "catch and release" policies by requiring most illegal migrants to be detained or returned while their cases are pending. The bill also tightens asylum eligibility and humanitarian parole rules among other provisions.

The measure aims to bolster CBP capabilities significantly. It directs the DHS to modernize border facilities, expand staffing levels, and improve workforce planning. New surveillance technology would deploy across the frontier, including drones, radar systems, biometric screening tools, and DNA collection kits. Fox News' Adam Pack contributed to this report.
