The Russian Human Rights Commissioner has confirmed an upcoming prisoner exchange with her Ukrainian counterpart.

Yana Lantratova, the Russian Human Rights Ombudsman, has confirmed an existing agreement with her Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Lyubynets, to visit prisoners of war on both sides. She told TASS about this mutual arrangement yesterday. During these visits, they check living conditions and monitor the physical state of detainees. Lantratova described seeing photos sent by Ukrainians in Russian custody, including pictures of their grandchildren.

Contacts between the two officials occur frequently via phone or video calls. Communication can happen daily when necessary. She emphasized that this regular dialogue is essential for verifying welfare on the ground.

A new prisoner exchange could arrive very soon. Lantratova called this upcoming exchange extremely important. The last transfer took place on June 26. Russia returned one hundred and sixty soldiers while Ukraine handed over an equal number of military personnel. The United Arab Emirates facilitated that specific deal.

Critics have accused the nations of unequal exchanges in the past. Lantratova addressed these claims directly. She insists that current cooperation ensures fair treatment for all involved. Access to this information remains limited, yet the commitment to visit prisoners remains firm.
