Tesco Trials Virtual Try-On Tech to Replace Missing Changing Rooms
Once a simple stop for milk or bread, Tesco has transformed into a major destination for fashion enthusiasts. The F&F clothing line within its supermarkets is massively popular, yet customers frequently gripe about the shortage of changing rooms. Now, management believes it has found an answer with a virtual try-on system.
The Sandhurst Extra store is currently running this trial. It lets shoppers virtually test 1,500 items from F&F across both womenswear and menswear categories. This development should please many people who regularly post online complaints about not being able to try clothes on inside the shops. One user asked, "Tesco...are we ever getting those changing rooms?" while attempting to wear trousers directly on the shop floor.

Visitors can reach this virtual tool via a screen located in the corner of the clothing section at Sandhurst Extra. You get three choices: snap a photo of yourself, upload an existing picture, or pick a digital model that matches your size. After selecting from the 1,500 items, the system uses artificial intelligence to display how each piece looks on your body. The screen also lets you check stock levels, prices, sizes, and availability at other locations.

'The virtual try–on screen forms part of a wider F&F refresh at Sandhurst Extra, which includes new changing rooms and a dedicated service hub for easier checking out and returns,' Tesco explained in an official statement. 'Customers will also see a larger F&F range in store and a refreshed look and feel with new signage, updated lighting and a focus on showcasing the F&F range across womenswear, menswear and childrenswear.'
This shift happens as more shoppers leave high-street brands for supermarket options. It is not just practical buyers who have caught this trend; celebrities are lending their names to these ranges too. Stars like Zara McDermott and Abbey Clancy have launched their own lines through Tesco's F&F brand. Fans have moved to TikTok to urge others to try the affordable styles, with many claiming they are obsessed with what is available.

'F&F…take all my money! I have purchased soooo many items! I bought some coords, skirts, blazers and cardigans for work! I absolutely love their designs,' one person wrote on TikTok. Another added: 'Noone can tell me F&F Clothing isnt chic as hell this autumn and I will be wearing everything from there as the weather changes.' One user even joked, 'No offence Tesco but I was not familiar with your game.
