Ted Shackelford Looks Sharp at Rare LA Appearance

Sep 27, 2026 •Entertainment

Ted Shackelford, the veteran actor best known for his time on "Knots Landing," made a rare public appearance in Los Angeles recently. The 80-year-old star looked sharp as he stepped out wearing a blue collared shirt layered with a matching knit cardigan. He paired this look with black trousers, sunglasses, and sneakers to complete the casual yet polished ensemble.

Shackelford first grabbed national attention by playing Raymond Gordon on "Another World" for 110 episodes. That success paved the way for his iconic role as Gary Ewing in the massive hit series "Dallas." He eventually moved over to the spinoff show, "Knots Landing," where he portrayed the troubled black sheep of the wealthy family.

The actor remained busy even after the original run ended in 1993. However, he admitted years later that he never truly liked his character on screen. Speaking to The Dallas Decoder back in 2013, Shackelford described Gary as weak and lacking depth. He stated clearly that he wished for more courage in the role but never saw it there during filming.

His career has bounced between various television movies and guest spots on popular shows like "Cybill" and "Spin City." In 2006, he returned to his soap opera roots by starring as Jeffery and William Bardwell on "The Young and the Restless." This run lasted until 2015. He also made a final on-screen appearance in a 2017 episode of "NCIS," keeping him relevant decades after his big break.

Fans might remember his timeline starting with "Another World" between 1975 and 1976. Then came the nine episodes of "Dallas" from 1979 to 1981 before he shifted fully to "Knots Landing." He also starred in "Space Precinct" during 1994 and 1995. A reboot of "Dallas" brought him back in 2013, and a special reunion event gathered the original cast including Joan Van Ark, Michele Lee, Donna Mills, William Devane, and others to discuss old times.

Donna Mills has been open about their chemistry during that era. When talking to Entertainment Tonight in August regarding their love scenes on the show, she called them steamy without hesitation. She noted how good he looked and admitted it was fun working with such a sweetheart of a man. The actress said she could not deny that the experience was genuinely enjoyable for her.
