SpaceX adopts 'Super Intelligence' name per Trump directive
Elon Musk is flipping the name on SpaceX's artificial intelligence unit after President Donald Trump issued a new directive last week. That order tells everyone to call AI "Super Intelligence" instead. The president believes this fresh term captures the true power of the tech better than anything else. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk agreed immediately. He posted on X that yes, they will make the switch. No more AI. It is now SI because it sounds stronger.

This follows Trump's executive order titled "Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence." The document argues the new name fits reality. Rules apply to public messages and government sites right away. Congress can keep old terms in laws until they update statutes later. Musk sees frontier technology as far past basic AI long before chatbots hit the mainstream. He has held this view for years.

Musk supported Nick Bostrom's 2014 book called "Superintelligence: Paths, Dangers, Strategies" back then. The book warned about runaway super intelligence that could beat nuclear weapons in danger level. This Sunday move shows Musk stays close to the Trump administration. xAI's Grok already powers some government work when Musk served as a special adviser in 2025.

SpaceXAI started only months ago in July after SpaceX bought xAI for $1.25 trillion. That huge deal merged the two companies into one giant. Renaming it SpaceXSI marks its second big identity change in less than a year. Before that purchase, xAI ran as an independent startup founded by Musk in 2023. The company later swallowed X Corp., formerly known as Twitter, in March 2025.
