Sharon Stone's Husband Left Her After She Chose Mastectomy Over Surgery
Sharon Stone recently disclosed the painful moment she realized her marriage was ending. The 68-year-old actress faced a terrifying health scare that drove a wedge between her and her husband. Her spouse's reaction to her medical decision ultimately destroyed their relationship.

Doctors warned Stone that suspicious masses in her breast likely indicated cancer. She did not name her ex-husband but noted he worked as a journalist. Phil Bronstein, a prominent newspaper executive, was her husband from 1998 until 2004. Stone previously married producer Michael Greenburg from 1984 to 1990.

During an interview on "The Person Who Believed In Me" podcast, Stone described the severity of her condition. "One of them was bigger than the size of my entire left breast," she stated. The tumor extended high up into her chest wall. A doctor visited her home and advised a bilateral mastectomy.

The physician told her, "We think you should have a bilateral mastectomy. This is really bad." He added that such large tumors usually mean cancer is present. Stone insisted, "I don't have cancer." The doctor replied, "You don't get to decide that." Stone countered, "I do, I do get to decide that I'm deciding. But I am deciding that I will have a bilateral because I'm not f--king around."
Her husband immediately reacted with hostility. "My husband said, 'Wow, this is ridiculous,' and got up and left the room," Stone recalled. He was furious that she would choose surgery. The doctor intervened to defend her autonomy.

The medical professional told the husband, "If I had more patients like her, we'd have more women alive today. You need to sit down." Stone asserted, "I make the decisions. Not you." She declared that this argument marked the end of their marriage. "That was the end of the marriage," she said. "That was it. He was done with me. Then it was over."

Stone clarified that the divorce was not formally filed that day, but the relationship died instantly. "It was just over in the room," she explained. "You could just tell it was over." She claimed he thought she was ridiculous and foolish for making her own medical choices.

Fortunately, doctors later discovered her tumors were benign during a biopsy. Stone survived the ordeal despite the marital fallout.
