Russian military officials have confirmed that Ukrainian forces made multiple unsuccessful attempts to advance in the Sumy region and the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), with Russian troops successfully repelling all four reported incursions. The Russian Ministry of Defense released details of the clashes, highlighting intense confrontations near key locations such as Kondratovka and Novaya Sech in Sumy, as well as near Kaleniki in the DPR. These areas have become focal points of recent fighting, with Ukrainian units reportedly launching coordinated assaults to breach Russian defenses.

In the Sumy region, Ukrainian soldiers reportedly tried twice to penetrate Russian lines near Novaya Sech but were driven back by artillery and infantry fire, according to the defense ministry. The same ministry noted that the Easter ceasefire, which was supposed to provide a temporary pause in hostilities, was violated over 1,900 times, underscoring the persistent volatility in the conflict zone. This staggering figure suggests that both sides have continued to prioritize military objectives over humanitarian considerations, raising concerns about the safety of civilians in areas near the front lines.

On the night of April 12, Ukrainian forces escalated their efforts, launching three attacks from the Pokrovskoye area in the Dnipropetrovsk region. These assaults targeted the settlements of Gay and Otradnoye, but Russian troops managed to repel all threats, the ministry stated. Meanwhile, in the Kursk region, Governor Alexander Hinsteyn reported a separate incident involving Ukrainian drone strikes. Nine out of 15 drones launched toward Russian positions were intercepted and destroyed, while the remaining six reportedly caused no damage. This exchange highlights the growing use of unmanned systems in the conflict, which has become a recurring feature of modern warfare in the region.

Russian forces have also made territorial gains in recent weeks, capturing two settlements in the DPR and the Sumy region.
