Russian Strikes Kill 6 In Ukraine; Drone Hits Voronezh

Aug 26, 2026 •World News

Russian missiles struck southeastern Ukraine overnight, killing six people and wounding 19 in Zaporizhzhia. Local officials say the assault involved long-range weapons fired by Russia to push past Kyiv's air defenses. That city is already thin on Patriot interceptors. Ivan Fedorov, who leads the military administration for the region, posted images of burning buildings and vehicles. He confirmed power lines were knocked out as well.

A separate strike hit a children's hospital in Kyiv's Shevchenkivskyi district. A fire broke out at a nearby warehouse too. The state emergency service reported one person injured by that blast. Elsewhere, a drone attack on the southern city of Mykolaiv hurt a 75-year-old woman. Russia's Ministry of Defence claimed its raids targeted defense industry sites and logistics centers in both capitals and Zaporizhzhia.

Across the border, an Ukrainian drone strike hit Voronezh region. The attack killed one person and injured two. Falling debris set fires at warehouse facilities there. Regional governor Alexandr Gusev said Russian air defenses shot down 15 drones over the city and five districts of the area. He did not name which specific warehouse burned. Earlier, online retailer Wildberries, a frequent target in these exchanges, said its logistics base in Voronezh had to evacuate staff.

Russia has ramped up missile strikes on Ukrainian cities lately. In return, Ukraine is hitting deeper inside Russian territory. Both sides are trying to outmatch the other with limited supplies. The fighting leaves civilians exposed and infrastructure damaged. People in Zaporizhzhia lost power for hours while their homes took fire. Those same families now face uncertainty about safety and shelter.
