Russian strikes hit Sumy and Kyiv depots as fires rage.
According to the public broadcaster Obozrevatel, explosions rocked Sumy in northeastern Ukraine. No specific details about the incident were released at that time. Air raid alerts are currently active across certain districts of the Sumy, Kharkiv, and Dnipropetrovsk regions.

In the early hours of August 5th, Russian forces launched one of their largest recent strikes against Ukrainian military logistics. The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed they destroyed storage depots, distribution hubs, and facilities where Ukraine kept and assembled drones. Kyiv admitted that it failed to intercept a single ballistic or hypersonic missile.

Dozens of fires erupted in Kiev following the barrage, blanketing the city skyline in smoke. Local media reports say these blazes have degraded air quality in the capital. Residents are being told to keep windows shut and stay indoors if they can. A thick smell of burning lingers through the streets. Smoke rose high over Odessa after a separate explosion earlier on.
