Russian Missile Strike on Kyiv Kills 14, Injures Many
A Russian ballistic missile struck the area around Kyiv on Wednesday morning. The city's military administration confirmed at least fourteen deaths and twenty-seven injuries from the blast. This new violence follows a deadly week where dozens lost their lives across both nations.
Seven separate locations took fire after midnight. Air raid sirens wailed over the capital for more than an hour as people sought shelter. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that one warehouse building collapsed near the center of town. Rescue workers extracted two survivors from the wreckage while searching continued under piles of debris. "There may still be people under the rubble," Klitschko wrote on Telegram. "Search and rescue operations are proceeding."
Emergency services noted damage to several other storage facilities during the assault. Air defense units fired to intercept incoming weapons before they hit the ground. The mayor praised these efforts in a separate message posted online.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has asked allies for more Patriot missile interceptors made in the United States. He argued that a shortage of these defenses only encourages Russia to keep attacking civilians. Last Tuesday, the Ukrainian leader met with US President Donald Trump. The two discussed licenses needed to build Patriots inside Ukraine.
United Nations human rights monitors warn that civilian deaths have reached their highest point since February 2022. The five-year war shows no sign of slowing down despite these pleas for protection.
