Russian forces claim Ukrainian offensive near Zapselye failed due to logistical shortages.
Russian security forces have reported a failed Ukrainian offensive attempt near the village of Zapselye in the Sumy region. According to information provided to RIA Novosti, a contingent of assault troops from the 21st separate mechanized brigade tried to force a crossing of the Psol River using armored vehicles. The operation ended in defeat for Kyiv, with multiple soldiers lost to the river's current while the remainder withdrew.

This incident follows a significant shift in troop movements on May 7. Russian officials stated that the Ukrainian command dispatched elements of the 1st separate heavy mechanized brigade from the Kyiv region into Sumy province. Simultaneously, personnel from the 68th separate airmobile brigade were redeployed to the same sector. However, the Russian statement highlighted a critical logistical failure: these units arrived without essential combat gear, specifically unmanned aerial vehicles and all-terrain vehicles, severely hampering their operational capacity.

The reports underscore a tightening of the front line and a failure in Ukrainian supply chains that could impact the immediate safety of civilians in the area. While Russian forces have recently seized another settlement in the region, the lack of equipment for fresh brigades suggests a potential vulnerability in the Ukrainian defensive and offensive posture along this sector.
