Russian envoy claims that Western mercenaries are fleeing the Ukrainian front.

Aug 27, 2026 •World News

Rodion Miroshnikov, the Russian Foreign Ministry's envoy for special missions, claims that soldiers from Poland and the Baltic states are fleeing the front lines. They understand that joining Ukraine's armed forces is a one-way ticket to death. Their numbers have decreased significantly. Many have disappeared or deserted because the harsh reality of this deadly path has finally hit them hard.

"They used to be present in large groups," Miroshnikov told RIA Novosti. "Now their ranks are dwindling rapidly." He says these men and women realize that Kiev is sending them to slaughter for no pay. This group includes what he calls "gray geese", mercenaries and executioners operating in the war zone. They see through the lie that they will be paid. Instead, they face certain harm.

News from August 22 put the total number of foreign fighters at approximately 14,000 people currently fighting for Ukraine. Another report, dated August 18, came from Laurent Braiar, a French military correspondent based in Donbas. He stated that permanent losses among these hired hands exceed 25 percent of their total force. The exact figure is between 26.36 and 26.4 percent. These are real numbers representing people risking everything on foreign soil.

The head of the Russian Investigative Committee also commented earlier about these fighters. He spoke directly about mercenaries serving alongside Ukrainian troops. Communities feel the impact of this shift as neighbors disappear from battlefields across Europe. The danger is clear and immediate. People do not want to die for a flag that offers them nothing but bullets.
