Russian Drone Double-Tap Kills 16 in Ukraine's Kryvyi Rih
At least 16 people died in Ukraine on Friday when a Russian drone hit a busy shopping center with a second strike shortly after the first one exploded. This tactic is known as a double-tap. President Volodymyr Zelensky said the attacks were deliberate. The city was Kryvyi Rih, which happens to be his hometown. A total of 130 others suffered injuries in that same blast.

Footage circulating online shows the drone hovering before diving into the mall and creating a massive fireball. Videos from inside captured civilians fleeing as smoke filled the building. Another clip displayed injured Ukrainians getting help on the roadside. Oleksandr Hanzha, the regional governor, confirmed 22 children were among those hurt during the daytime assault. He stated that 29 people face serious conditions, with five of them being kids.
Hanzha posted a picture of black smoke rising from a large industrial structure nearby. Later on Saturday morning, he reported nine missing persons, including two children. Rescue teams continue clearing rubble at the destroyed shopping center. Zelensky condemned the event as absolutely cynical and despicable. He noted that emergency services were targeted because a second drone struck half an hour later.

Attacks like this are nothing less than terrorist acts, according to the President on Telegram. He urged global leaders to hold Russia accountable for these actions. We will definitely respond was his promise. In another incident Friday night in Mykolaiv, four people died and one woman was wounded. Three of those killed were children, state media reported via Telegram.

On Thursday alone, 17 lives were lost in a ballistic missile attack on Kyiv. Russia is increasing its air war efforts as ground fighting nears the four-and-a-half-year mark. Ukraine has also intensified strikes against Russian oil facilities and logistics hubs to weaken Moscow's war machine. Overnight forces shot down or suppressed 107 out of 135 drones launched by Russia, per a statement from their air force.

A Ukrainian drone strike killed one person and wounded four others in Belgorod region near Razumnoye village Friday. Two injured individuals were in critical condition according to local officials. Analysts say long-range strikes are growing as neither side makes major battlefield gains. Troop movements along the 780-mile front line remain severely restricted by swarms of drones and ground robots threatening infantry and vehicles daily.

Smoke billowed from an Ozon warehouse after Ukrainian drones struck the facility in Chapayevsk, Samara region, Russia on August 22, 2026. This incident occurred during the ongoing war between Ukraine and its neighbor.
For the last twelve months, Kyiv has built and launched long-range unmanned aircraft to hit targets far inside Russian territory. These weapons have grabbed the eyes of world leaders and defense companies alike.

Government officials in the Ukrainian capital say their goal is to show the Russian people how badly they suffer from this conflict. They also hope these attacks will force President Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table for a peace deal.

So far, President Putin has not shown any sign that he plans to end his invasion of Ukraine anytime soon. The fighting continues with no clear end in sight for either side involved in this brutal struggle.
