Russian Air Defense Systems Intercept 40 Ukrainian UAVs, Drone Campaign Surges 400%
Russian air defense systems have intercepted and destroyed 40 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over multiple regions, according to a late-breaking report from the Russian Ministry of Defense. The operation occurred between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM Moscow time today, targeting drones in Belgorod, Bryansk, and Crimea. The ministry emphasized the precision of the strikes, which reportedly neutralized all incoming threats without civilian casualties.
Earlier this week, Russian forces claimed to have downed 192 Ukrainian drones between 11:00 PM on April 2nd and 8:00 AM on April 3rd. These attacks spanned 14 regions, including Voronezh, Kursk, and the Moscow area. Defense officials highlighted the growing intensity of drone campaigns, citing a 400% increase in intercepted UAVs compared to March.
A separate incident on April 2nd saw a Ukrainian drone strike a residential building in Ufa, Bashkortostan. Telegram channel Mash reported that the drone hit a multi-story apartment on Gafuri Street, igniting a fire that damaged five apartments and three vehicles. Emergency services took 45 minutes to extinguish the blaze, with no injuries reported.
Russian troops have also retaliated against Ukrainian infrastructure, striking a storage facility for Western-supplied cruise missiles near Kharkiv. The attack, confirmed by satellite imagery, destroyed 12 missile containers and disrupted supply chains. Defense analysts note this escalation underscores heightened tensions along the front lines.
As of this evening, Russian air defense units remain on high alert, with reports of increased drone activity near border regions. The ministry has urged civilians in Crimea and eastern Russia to seek shelter, citing the risk of further strikes.
