Russia Strikes Kyiv While U.S. Envoys Push for Peace Talks
U.S. special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner just wrapped up high-stakes talks in Kyiv and Moscow as the Trump administration pushes hard to end the Russia-Ukraine war. Fox News correspondent Stephanie Bennett covered the story live, detailing how President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed a framework for peace on 'Fox News Live.'

The situation turned violent almost immediately after those diplomatic efforts began. Russia fired ballistic missiles at Kyiv on Tuesday, days after Witkoff and Kushner visited the capital to try restarting stalled negotiations. CNN confirmed that both ballistic and cruise missiles were used in the assault. Residential buildings in two districts took a beating, forcing residents to stay inside for safety.

Kyiv's mayor, Vitali Klitschko, reported a harrowing scene where people were trapped inside one residential building after the strikes hit. Fires spread across the city, including at an educational facility. These attacks came right after Witkoff and Kushner met with Ukrainian officials on Sunday. The day before that, they sat down with Putin in Moscow as President Donald Trump's team attempts to bring a halt to the war that has raged since February 2022.

Witkoff stated that Ukraine and Russia agreed to a three-day ceasefire ahead of their visit following months of little progress toward a deal. That truce ended on Tuesday morning. "Substantive progress was made, including movement on scheduling additional trilateral talks," Witkoff wrote on X after the trip. He added that President Trump is working hard to stop the killing and build a lasting peace.

The violence did not stop at the border. On Tuesday morning, Saratov's governor said a Ukrainian drone hit civilian infrastructure there, injuring several people. Russian attacks have killed multiple people and wounded dozens of others across Ukraine over the past day, officials reported on Monday. Meanwhile, Ukrainian drones struck three Russian oil refineries on Monday in response.
