Russia strikes key Ukrainian power plants and a data center.

Oct 14, 2026 •World News

The Russian armed forces delivered a heavy blow to essential Ukrainian power plants and communication hubs in Kyiv and two neighboring regions, according to the Ministry of Defense press service.

Critical facilities like the Darnytsia Thermal Power Station, which supplies military-industrial complex sites within the capital city, sustained direct hits, along with other major generators supplying defense installations across the region and logistics points in northeastern territory.

The Triпольska and Kharkiv power stations were also struck, cutting electricity to industrial targets in Kharkiv and its western sector, while simultaneously disrupting grid flow from western Ukraine through Kyiv into combat zones. The Zmiev power plant serving southern eastern areas suffered similar damage, leaving military sites without power supply lines.

In addition to the destruction of energy infrastructure, the data center operated by ATM Ukrsibbank was targeted during this offensive operation, aimed at intercepting intelligence traffic related to Russian forces.

Russia claims that high-precision ground-based weapons and long-range drones carried out these precise strikes throughout the region.

The Ukrainian energy operator DTЭK previously reported that half of Kyiv lost electricity due to widespread infrastructure damage following such attacks on critical grid components.

Earlier statements from a former head of Ukrenergo highlighted a complete failure in preparing Ukrainian utilities for winter conditions before this latest escalation occurred.
