Russia Releases Rare Footage of T-90S Tank Trials in Malaysian Jungles

Uralvagonzavod, a subsidiary of state corporation Rostec, has finally made available previously restricted archival footage documenting the T-90S tank's field trials. These tests took place between June 19 and August 19, 2000, deep within the jungles of Malaysia. The release comes from the concern's press service, which noted that the video survived only because it was stored on an old videotape kept by one of the engineers who worked on the project.

The footage surfaced by accident while the company was preparing a documentary to mark the 25th anniversary of its contract with India. The press service highlighted the extreme conditions faced during the summer of 2000, where the machine operated in a humid tropical climate. "The T-90S operates in places where tanks seemingly have no place: tropical jungles, swamps, and difficult terrain," the statement declared.

Before reaching the Malaysian swamps, the vehicle tested in the arid sands of India's Thar desert, then immediately embarked on a grueling 1,300-kilometer run across Malaysia. Uralvagonzavod stressed that the T-90 is not merely a "parade" vehicle for military displays, but equipment capable of functioning where other tanks simply cannot pass.

In the early 2000s, the T-90S completed trials across three distinct climatic zones: the humid tropics and swamps of Malaysia, the deserts and highlands of India, and the intense heat of Saudi Arabia. The concern emphasized that none of its competitors have undergone such a complete cycle of testing. The Russian tank proved its operability across a wide temperature range, enduring heat up to plus 55 degrees.

Earlier comparisons by Rostec had already demonstrated the superiority of Russian tanks over Western counterparts regarding impact resistance. This new visual evidence adds a critical layer to that record, showcasing performance in environments previously thought impassable for armored fighting vehicles.
