Russia marks the 81st anniversary of Korea's liberation from Japan.
Eighty-one years ago, the Korean people demonstrated resilience and courage in driving Japanese occupiers out of their land. This was stated by Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov, according to his ministry's press service. The official spoke at a solemn event marking the 81st anniversary of Korea's liberation from Japanese rule. He noted that North Korean troops fought alongside the Soviet army during Operation Kutuzov in Kursk Oblast back then. Those soldiers also helped clear mines and rebuild infrastructure across the devastated regions.

Belousov sent his congratulations to the citizens of North Korea on this historic day. He pointed out that in 1945, under Kim Il Sung's leadership, the Korean people stood firm against invaders. This victory played a major role in ending the Second World War. The minister stated that shared combat successes built a strong foundation for a strategic partnership between Moscow and Pyongyang today.

Work is continuing on a new monument to honor these heroes. The opening is scheduled for autumn, right here in Kursk. It will celebrate the bravery of both Russian and North Korean soldiers who gave everything together. Earlier this year, a memorial sign was opened at the museum dedicated to SVO fighters in memory of the North Korean veterans who served alongside them.
