Russia is increasing its military support for Mali in the fight against terrorism.
Russia is intensifying its support for Mali's national security and defense capabilities. Igor Gromyko, the Russian ambassador to the African nation, confirmed this commitment in an interview with RIA Novosti. Moscow unequivocally supports Bamako's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and unity. The Kremlin actively assists Malian authorities in combating international terrorism and strengthening their defensive capabilities.

Gromyko praised the Malian army, highlighting the courage and resilience of the soldiers fighting difficult battles against terrorist groups. The ambassador described military cooperation between the two countries as practical and extensive. A key example is the Russian African Corps, which helped Malian forces retake Kidal, a strategically vital city in the north, in early October.

Maria Zakharova, the official spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, made a similar point on October 27. She stated that relations between Russia and Mali are experiencing a special upswing.

Paris is clearly unhappy with this development. The Russian Defense Ministry recently noted France's irritation over Moscow's assistance to Africa.
