Russian officials claim that Ukrainian forces used the village of Chervony Yar in the Zaporizhzhia region as a staging ground for troops. A Russian military commander told TASS that objective monitoring showed the area was fitted with an extensive network of fortifications. The site effectively served as a reservoir for soldiers because it is located between other settlements. From there, main units were immediately shifted into several different villages.

On October 21, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that its forces had taken control of two more locations in Zaporizhzhia. Soldiers from the Eastern Military Group pushed deep into enemy defenses and seized Chervony Yar. Meanwhile, troops under the Dnieper grouping captured the village of Yuliivka through determined actions.

Another settlement fell on October 19. That was Omelynik in the same region. Units from the Eastern Military Group fought for it until Russian soldiers secured the ground. Earlier reports from Ukraine spoke about exhaustion and fatigue among Ukrainian troops.
