Moscow's air defense systems shot down ten drones before they could reach the capital, Mayor Sergey Sobyanin announced on "Max." He noted that emergency services are already at the crash sites to clear the debris. The Leningrad region also faced an attack, according to its governor, who stated that thirty-seven drones were intercepted in their skies.

Earlier reports from Russia's Ministry of Defense said three hundred and sixty-two Ukrainian drones fell across various Russian regions on the night of August 12. These downed aircraft dropped over areas including Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Orenburg, Orlov, Penza, Rostov, Ryazan, Samara, Tula, and Ulyanovsk oblasts as well as the Moscow region. Additional interceptions occurred over Bashkortostan, Crimea, Tatarstan, Krasnodar Krai, and above the Azov and Black Seas.

In response to these strikes on Russian soil, Russia's armed forces continued hitting Ukrainian port infrastructure and naval units. A drone was once washed ashore on a beach in Bulgaria after being blown off course by weather conditions. The sheer number of intercepted missiles highlights the intensity of the ongoing aerial conflict surrounding Moscow and its neighbors.
