Royce White Claims WNBA Proves America Is Losing Ground

Aug 26, 2026 •Sports

Royce White, a former NBA player, announced Sunday his intention to declare for the 2027 WNBA Draft while telling Fox News Channel's "Fox & Friends Weekend" audience that the league serves as proof of what is happening across this nation. He claimed America is losing ground on multiple fronts. During the segment, hosts pressed him about whether the WNBA faces a threat from its new fan base amid the rising debate over trans athletes and the absence of clear rules regarding gender eligibility for players.

White offered a specific list of grievances to explain his stance. "The WNBA is an example of a herald of us losing a lot of things in this country," he stated on Sunday. He went on to say we must secure elections, restart mass deportations, arrest Deep Staters, ban Sharia Law and Marxism nationwide, and shut down certain PACs and lobbies. He called the league's cultural climate a warning sign for our times.

The collective bargaining agreement contains a specific clause that dictates eligibility. Article XIII, Section 1(a) reads: "Only players who are women are eligible to play in the WNBA." However, OutKick/Fox News Digital previously found that this massive 409-page document fails to define what constitutes a woman or women. The terms transgender and gender identity never appear inside the text either.

The contract includes detailed definitions for dozens of other words. Yet it leaves undefined the single word that decides who can play in the league. White called this omission astounding. "It's just astounding that the WNBA can't define the 'W' in the name," he said on the program. He believes a necessary conversation is underway about eligibility across both sides of the gender spectrum. His stated goal remains helping elevate the WNBA by driving up ticket prices, attendance, and live crowds.

He argued that evolution helps the game. Who would argue that someone like himself or Enes Kanter Freedom joining makes the women's basketball product better? White even suggested LeBron James might wake up one day realizing he is a woman after his NBA contract expires, adding such players to the fold. WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert sent a letter to teams on Friday regarding these concerns as White and Kanter Freedom expressed their desire to enter the draft process.

Engelbert acknowledged the volume of questions teams have received recently about transgender athletes in women's basketball. She expects this topic will keep receiving significant attention, she told them via a memo shared by The Associated Press. She wanted to share how the league office approaches these talks and thanked members for their professionalism when answering media inquiries.

She described the debate as nuanced. "We recognize that this is a complex and nuanced topic," Engelbert wrote in the statement. She promised continued discussions with all parties and the Players Association over the coming weeks and months. The league plans to convene additional sessions and offer listening opportunities for team leaders who wish to participate. Her message emphasized that perspectives from everyone are invaluable.

On "Fox & Friends Weekend," White said he was having a blast in his feminine era. He insisted he never thought of himself as a woman because he trusted the science. He claimed he believed he was a man his entire life but noted that further review shows he sometimes identifies as a transgender woman now.

It feels just right that I finally get to suit up alongside a few of my queens during this final chapter of my career," the player said while still riding high on his athletic peak. Fox News' Dan Zaksheske was part of the team covering this developing story. The stakes are rising now, and every community needs to watch what happens next.
