Rhode Island teacher faces prison for abusing high school students
A biology teacher from Rhode Island spent her early years in a gilded cage of privilege before her life crashed down around her. Brooke Anderson, now 28, grew up inside a $1.2 million mansion in Greenwich that seemed built for success. She had loving parents who stayed together and worked hard in business. Her father led a major insurance brokerage in Providence while her mother was a proud parent. Even before the scandal broke, she posted photos of herself celebrating her older sister's prom night on Facebook. The family appeared stable, with no signs of strife or trouble brewing behind closed doors.
Then things went south fast once she moved to Florida for college and eventually landed a job at Riverview High School in Tampa. She admitted seven felony charges and is currently serving time inside Florida State Prison. A 30-month sentence awaits her after she pleaded guilty last June. The crimes were committed against a student identified only as RB, who was just under the state's age of consent when he became her victim.

The details are shocking enough to make anyone question how this could happen. On the morning of her arrest in May 2025, Anderson allegedly carried out these acts right inside her classroom before classes even began. She is accused of performing unlawful sexual activity with a minor on three separate counts. Now RB has taken it further by filing a civil lawsuit. He claims the trauma he endured caused him to lose his faith in God. The complaint alleges severe and permanent psychological injuries, including depression and anxiety that robbed him of joy in life.
RB is also suing the Hillsborough County School Board for allowing this abuse to happen under their watch. Anderson began grooming the boy back in 2021 according to court documents seen by the Daily Mail. Her background makes her actions all the more baffling. She completed multiple scientific studies and was known as a keen environmentalist before she was caught. There is no evidence of family dysfunction or abuse at home that would explain such behavior.
The contrast between her past life and present reality could not be sharper. She traded white sand beaches, barbecues, and vacations in Ecuador for the grim, humid conditions of a prison cell. A sprawling estate with a three-car garage and manicured gardens has been replaced by confinement. Peace and quiet are no longer her lot to command. The fact that she faced these consequences proves exactly where she belongs now.

When contacted by the Daily Mail for comment on the allegations, Anderson did not respond directly to the civil suit claims. RB says his guilty pleas against her have substantially strengthened his case. He describes himself as struggling with mental illness and suffering a loss of faith due to what he endured in that schoolroom. The tragedy lies not just in the acts themselves but in how they destroyed a young person's worldview.
Brooke Anderson is still behind bars, serving out a 30-month sentence in Florida State Prison. She started her career at the school right after graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and Policy in 2020. Soon she moved on to earn a Master of Science in Interdisciplinary Ecology from the University of Florida.

A legal complaint alleges that Anderson was RB's freshman science teacher. She allegedly welcomed him into her classroom before school began and again during his lunch hour. The visits kept going through his sophomore year, with RB frequently eating meals inside her room or staying after school. By junior year, their dynamic had shifted. Their teacher-student relationship evolved, and Anderson allegedly started texting the teen's personal cell phone.
'The messages began as general conversation, but eventually were of a very graphic, sexual nature,' the complaint stated. The pair engaged in sexual phone calls while she sent 'graphic and sexual' photographs and videos to his device during school hours. RB claimed that Anderson would regularly ask him to delete any proof of their correspondence. This inappropriate relationship dragged on into his senior year.

RB told police earlier that their connection began in September 2024 with sexually explicit text messages. It allegedly worsened over the following year, with Anderson sending him 'sexually provocative' and naked images in April 2025. She was arrested in May of last year after she allegedly sexually abused, performed oral sex on, and raped RB inside her classroom, according to the lawsuit.
Anderson faced three counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor. One count charged lewd or lascivious conduct with a student. Two counts covered transmission of harmful materials to a minor, and one count involved unlawful use of a two-way communication device. She pleaded guilty to every single charge. Her sentence included 30 months in prison, followed by 24 months of community service and 10 years of probation. A mugshot taken at her arrest in June 2025 shows the reality of her situation.
She is being sued by her victim. RB argues that Anderson's guilty pleas only strengthen his civil lawsuit for damages totaling $100,000. This money covers emotional distress and sexual battery. The civil complaint cites her own guilty plea to accuse her of engaging in sexual activity with the teen at the school on three separate occasions. It also claims she 'demonstrated predatory behavior and a blatant disregard for child safety.'

The teen is also suing the school board for commercial negligence, seeking $50,000 in damages. He alleges the board knew or should have known of the risk of teacher-on-student sexual misconduct because of the August 2024 arrest of social studies teacher David Patrick Coffey. Coffey was fired after being charged with unlawful use of a two-way communication device, two counts of sexual battery, and five counts of unlawful sexual activity with another minor student. He was convicted on eight felony counts and sentenced to 15 years in prison.
The Hillsborough County School Board declined the Daily Mail's request for comment, citing 'pending litigation.' The district has not yet filed a response to the complaint. Meanwhile, Anderson languishes in prison, edging ever closer towards a freedom that could see her finances severely depleted by her victim when she finally re-enters society. Anderson does not appear to have retained an attorney for the civil case. Her criminal lawyer did not reply to the Daily Mail's request for comment.
