Republican Split Deepens as Former Allies Launch Anti-MAGA Party

Aug 26, 2026 •Politics

Republicans are tearing apart after Tucker Carlson pushes for a brand new party designed to topple the MAGA movement built by President Donald Trump. The split is deep and sudden.

Some of the President's fiercest conservative critics gathered over the weekend to launch this fresh political push. That group includes former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, Congressman Thomas Massie, and former Trump counterterrorism chief Joe Kent. They met at Carlson's cabin in Maine without invitation from Donald Trump.

Greene shared a photo of the crew sitting together. She wrote that they said no more foreign wars and meant it. They backed Donald Trump because he made that promise once. But he betrayed them all. Their commitment is America First for everyone, right, left, and center. The movement has begun.

Right away, anger spread through conservative online circles. Many called these leaders turncoats or traitors. The White House joined the criticism along with Meghan McCain, Laura Loomer, and other top conservative influencers who slammed the gathering of people they labeled garbage in the conservative movement. McCain noted on a podcast that those present represented the biggest pieces of garbage in the conservative movement.

Yet many other prominent right-wingers cheered the new crew determined to take on MAGA. Alex Jones, a far-right pundit, responded to Greene's post by saying that was a great group of Americans. He sounded happy about the shift.

Donald Trump's biggest right-wing critics are now plotting their political futures while abandoning his agenda. This break threatens to fracture the GOP further than ever before. The stakes are high for every American watching this unfold.

A recent photograph captures a gathering at Tucker Carlson's cabin that reveals deep fractures within the Republican Party. The image features seven individuals: Carolyn Grace Moffa, Brian Glenn, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Tucker Carlson, Joe Kent, Heather Kaiser Kent, and Thomas Massie. This visual record highlights an emerging split in a party dominated by Donald Trump for over ten years.

Marjorie Taylor Greene once stood as a close ally of the President until he publicly labeled her a traitor after she backed the release of Justice Department files on Jeffrey Epstein. Her presence at this event signals a clear realignment. Mike Flynn, who served as the first-term National Security Adviser for Trump, posted that he would join whatever group Carlson now represents with the slogan America First above MAGA. Popular influencer Sneako also weighed in, calling it a great group.

Those who convened share a specific grievance: they believe the President has abandoned his campaign pledges to lower prices and keep the United States out of new wars. Joe Kent resigned from the Trump administration earlier this year because he opposed the war against Iran. He recently stated that he and other attendees urged Carlson to run for president in 2028.

'I'd say all of us at one point in time told Tucker he needs to run, and Tucker's been pretty public that he's not going to run,' Kent said during a recent appearance on The Young Turks show. He explained that the group made its pitch to Carlson about why he should enter the race, hoping he might change his mind eventually. Carlson himself stated as recently as late June that he had no plans for a presidential bid.

Greene and Massie recently traveled to Costa Rica together with their spouses. On Wednesday evening, just days after this weekend gathering generated buzz, Tucker Carlson announced a 10-point policy platform on his show. The platform relied heavily on buzzwords like fair, sovereign, productive, beautiful, healthy, honest, optimistic, wise, decent, and united.

The former Fox News host has transformed into a beacon for Republicans unhappy with Trump's tenure. He has slammed the President for failing to represent an America first agenda. Carlson apologized for his past support of the Republican Party and recently voiced opposition to many policy objectives, specifically the war in Iran. He has also become a vocal critic of Israel and how the administration handled the Jeffrey Epstein files. These positions resonate with the Republican base.

Despite all the fanfare surrounding this new faction, the White House does not view them as a threat. White House Spokesman Davis Ingle stated that the President remains committed to maintaining Republican majorities in Congress and continuing to lower costs for working families. Meanwhile, he described the photo of these attendees as an embarrassing collection of mostly whiny turncoats who dramatically overestimate their influence and relevance.
