Rep. Ilhan Omar Avoids Questioning After Son's Home Search

Sep 11, 2026 •Crime

Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., walked away from reporters when asked about her son's home being searched by police following an arrest involving his roommate. Minneapolis officers executed a search warrant on August 25 at the residence shared by Omar's son, Adnan Hirsi, 20, and Abdulrahman Abdi, 22. They found multiple weapons and ammunition during the raid. The warrant came after Abdi was stopped for routine traffic issues and discovered to lack a driver's license or proof of insurance.

Abdi was released quickly, though his car was impounded. A firearm was recovered later. Since Abdi is a convicted felon, he cannot legally own a gun. That fact alone triggered the search of the property he shares with Hirsi. Neither Omar nor her son faces accusations of wrongdoing in this specific incident. Yet the event casts doubt on Hirsi's close ties to his roommate.

Omar declined to offer any opinion on the controversy. Reporters asked, "What do you know about the situation, why it happened in the first place?" as she moved through Capitol Hill corridors. She ignored the question and kept walking. Pressed further, officials asked if she would advise her son to move out of that home or distance himself from that situation.

The Minnesota lawmaker, a Somali refugee and the first woman elected to Congress while wearing a hijab, remained silent under scrutiny. Her office did not reply immediately when Fox News Digital sought comment. Abdi faces a weapons charge but was released the day after his arrest. His record shows 10 arrests in the past, including a felony speeding conviction from 2024 for driving over 100 miles per hour.

Omar supports strict gun regulations. She advocates closing the gun show loophole and enacting "red flag" laws to temporarily block people deemed dangerous from accessing firearms. She has also voted for bills banning assault-style weapons and strengthening universal background checks. Right-wing activist Benny Johnson posted on X, writing that this is not a good look for Ilhan Omar. Fox News Digital also contacted the Hennepin County Sheriff's Department for further details.
