Red Sox Embarrassed as Dolphins Survive Vikings Loss
The first Monday of October brings playoff baseball and football games tonight. I spent the weekend hitting golf balls at the range and might even play a round this week for the first time since July. It would be nice not to carry a towel to every hole anymore. Who has it better than us? Nobody. And that is coming from me! All my teams got battered last week, yet I remain pumped to start fresh. The Red Sox look embarrassed and the Gators are really embarrassed. Our Dolphins actually did okay by losing only five points to the Vikes. It would be nice to hold a lead at some point this season, but that goal will have to wait until next week. For now, we simply move forward.
Welcome to Monday Nightcaps where Sophie Cunningham turns her attention to Missouri football and wears a hat sending a blunt message to women-hating WNBA players. You will see what I mean soon enough. There is more referee drama from the NFL slate yesterday, I remain unsure about Virginia Tech's missed field goal Friday night, and things are going well for Deion Sanders in Colorado. By that, I mean he might not make it to Halloween. What a fall from grace. Who could have seen this coming? Grab something tall and strong to drink, but do not order a hurricane if you live in Tuscaloosa. Settle in for this Monday update.

Sophie Cunningham destroyed my Florida Gators on Saturday while wearing a simple hat that reads WOMAN. A tropical storm may be eying Alabama for the showdown with Georgia this weekend. That is the big SEC game and Donald Trump is supposed to be in town. I am not sure that will happen if these weather projections pan out. I would love to see an old-fashioned SEC game in pouring rain on Saturday because I love offense and scoring. Trust me, I hammered the over in last week's Alabama-Mississippi State game and it was the most sweat-free bet of all time. Still, I miss the days when we got nice twenty-to-seventeen slugfests. We rarely get those anymore. Keep an eye on this one ahead of Saturday.
That ends our meteorological portion of today's class. Now let us discuss Sophie Cunningham wearing a hat that says WOMAN on the side and No Cis just for the front to Saturday's homecoming drubbing in Colorado. Things are not going well out west. I cannot even imagine the insufferable coach of the Minnesota Lynx stumbling upon those pictures today because she would probably faint. That hat is perfect for Sophie Cunningham who stays three steps ahead during the offseason. I have a feeling Sophie is about to take it up a notch over these next few months. Stay tuned for more updates.
Sophie's Tigers absolutely rolled my Gators on Saturday in a typical letdown game where national media spent a week drooling over Florida teams. It reminded me of the Dan Mullen years which was disgusting. Let us move from one ugly Saturday performance to another and check in with Colorado athletics. Deion Sanders asked what is wrong with his players after being questioned about the offense. He exclaimed that if he says it, you will run with it because everyone knows darn well what it is. He told them to write it themselves calling it blatant behavior. He said they would respect them a lot more if they admitted it themselves. The wheels are just about all the way off in Boulder. Remember a few years ago when Colorado briefly had the football world in the palm of its hand for about half a season?

It is a wild time to be alive. The Buffaloes stunk it up last year and sit at 2-3 this season already. Coach Sanders kicked three players off the team just last week, and his five-star quarterback mysteriously sat out last weekend. The offensive line cannot protect anyone, a persistent problem under Sanders in Boulder.
It is a mess... But nothing compares to the chaos happening right now in LA.

Let us rapidly fire through this Monday class so we can prepare for a massive night of playoff baseball and NFL football. First up? The 0-4 Los Angeles Chargers!
That is hardly the loudest endorsement for Mike McDaniel I have ever heard... Look, I watched McDaniel run offenses for four years in Miami. At times, it felt like a fairytale. The 2023 Miami Dolphins delivered the most enjoyable season of my life as a fan, which means little since the organization has stunk my entire existence.

When things work, they really work. But when they do not? It is unfathomably miserable. That describes where the Chargers are today.
There is no way Jim Harbaugh can fix this, right? ... Right?

Next, a couple of thoughts from over the weekend involving the referees. First, these two moments from yesterday were insane to watch and probably deserve a deeper look:
I watched the Vikings incident happen live and could not figure out what was going on. The player was clearly pushed into him. That happens in football games when you are literally in the trenches with ten other 300-pound men trying to kill each other. What is he so upset about?
The referee snapping at Trey McBride during the Cardinals game was wild. I have never seen that before. If a player did that to an official, he would probably be suspended. He would certainly get fined out of the wazoo. Let us see if Goodell has the stones to do the right thing here.

Finally, I know this happened last Friday, but I need everyone's opinion on the controversial field goal from Friday night in Blacksburg. Was that good or not? I wrote about it Saturday morning and received dozens of responses. Everyone is on the fence. I still think he made it. What do y'all see there? Let me know!
That is it for today. Good start to the week. Strong start to October. Let us keep this train rolling into a big Monday night.
