Real Madrid Confirms Arbeloa Departure as Mourinho Return Rumors Grow

Real Madrid head coach Alvaro Arbeloa has officially confirmed his departure from the club following a season marked by a lack of major trophies. During a press conference held on Friday, Arbeloa affirmed that he will not extend his contract for the upcoming campaign, a decision that coincides with persistent rumors regarding the potential return of Jose Mourinho.

When directly asked about his future, Arbeloa provided a clear affirmation: "Yes." This statement solidified reports that the veteran Portuguese manager is being considered to replace him. The announcement comes ahead of Real Madrid's final La Liga fixture, where Los Blancos will face Athletic Bilbao at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The club's leadership structure has shifted significantly since Florentino Perez appointed Arbeloa in January to succeed Xabi Alonso. Addressing the prospect of Mourinho's potential appointment, Arbeloa highlighted the Portuguese coach's existing support network. "Mou has a fantastic technical team, he's got good people around him, if he comes to Madrid he will come with his team," Arbeloa stated. He further clarified his position by noting the impossibility of joining that specific staff: "There's no chance that I would be with him. Then, my future … from Monday I'll think about that."

Arbeloa, whose tenure spans two decades with the club in various capacities, including playing from 2009 to 2016 and coaching the youth levels, expressed a desire for his final match to be viewed as a temporary pause rather than a permanent farewell. "I hope it's a see you later… I've always considered this my home, I've belonged to Madrid for 20 years in various roles," he said. Regarding the immediate match, he acknowledged the uncertainty of his long-term status but emphasized his commitment to the present moment: "It will be my last game this season as coach of Real Madrid; I don't know if it will be the last game of my life as coach of Real Madrid. We never know. I'll try and enjoy it and try to get the win.
