Randy Quaid Criticizes Anne Hathaway Casting in New Days of Thunder Sequel

Sep 1, 2026 •Entertainment

Randy Quaid has spoken out against the casting choice for the new "Days of Thunder" movie. The actor expressed strong objections to Anne Hathaway's role in the sequel that Tom Cruise announced recently. Quaid, who starred with Cruise in the original 1990s film, called Hathaway a "leftist, woke, horrible choice." He believes she should not replace Nicole Kidman in the NASCAR-themed project.

In a statement given to Fox News Digital, Quaid said Tony Scott would never have picked Anne for a part. The late director loved making well-made films with great actors who had sex appeal. A high-octane woman was always Tony's thing according to Quaid. He claimed that trying to work around Hathaway would be hell for everyone involved in the production.

Quaid first shared his grievances on social media after learning about the casting news. He told followers on X that the sexy older chick for Tom needs to be Nicole. That specific casting would sell the idea to a NASCAR audience who are MAGA, he argued. The actor also mentioned that editors slept in cutting rooms during shifts when they made the first film. Now there is a rush to get it out and tank.

Quaid mused that if he controlled production, both Cruise and Kidman would be together on screen again. Kidman played a neurosurgeon who fell in love with Cole Trickle in the original story. Hathaway is slated to play a team owner in the new Paramount movie instead. We do not need a new girl; we need a new race car, he argued while sharing Cruise's post.

Quaid said Anne isn't sexy because she is pregnant. He claimed Cruise personally called him when production was set but his tune changed quickly once Hathaway was revealed as a co-star. Representatives for Hathaway and Cruise did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.

Followers were divided when Quaid shared his statement on X. One user wrote that being yourself is the very definition of acting as a character. Another noted what made the last film so great was that it transcended stupid politics you are trying to bring into this. I'm MAGA, Anne is fn hot Cousin Eddie, one fan shared. Yes she might be a typical delusional lefty but I am ok with this for entertainment purposes only.
