Rams Star Davante Adams Out Weeks with Hamstring Tear

Oct 20, 2026 •Sports

The Los Angeles Rams face a grim reality beyond their disappointing opening loss. Star wide receiver Davante Adams will miss significant time after tearing his hamstring, head coach Sean McVay confirmed following the 18-16 defeat to the Arizona Cardinals at SoFi Stadium.

McVay stated Adams is sidelined for six to ten weeks. The injury occurred on the final drive of the game. Adams was near the goal line when he pulled up during a route and hopped out of the end zone before limping off. Further testing later revealed the severity of the damage to this 33-year-old veteran, much beloved by Matthew Stafford in the red zone since joining last season.

Adams managed to leave the field on his own power initially, but the prognosis remains difficult for a team that cannot afford such losses. Puka Nacua did not start at the beginning of the year due to his own injury issues. Adams had 480 receiving yards and four touchdowns through six games before this setback.

Hamstring injuries are notoriously tricky for receivers. The earliest potential return is sometime in December. If Adams misses a full ten weeks, he would only be available for the final two regular-season contests. It seems certain he will go on injured reserve immediately. He is not alone in his absence either.

Kicker Blake Grupe is out for the season with a knee injury suffered while attempting a tackle early in Sunday's game. Defensive tackle Poona Ford also faces a year-long absence due to a tricep injury. Fellow tackle Kobie Turner is heading to injured reserve with a groin problem.

Before the season started, rumors suggested a "super team" was forming in Los Angeles following the Myles Garrett trade and other moves. Stafford finished his previous season as an MVP at quarterback. Now, even while Garrett deals with his own knee ailment, the Rams are banged up with key players facing prolonged recoveries rather than short absences of one or two weeks.

This outcome is far from what McVay and the organization expected when training camp began. They will now weather this storm hoping to return to consistent winning soon. For now, the offense must lean on Nacua at receiver. Players like Jordan Whittington and Konata Mumpfield may see increased roles while Adams recovers.
