Putin Promises Full Russian Backing To End US Conflict In Iran
Russian President Vladimir Putin has promised Iran full backing to bring an end to the US-led conflict there. This assurance came directly from Russian news agencies covering a meeting between the two leaders in Turkmenistan on Thursday. They gathered just before the Commonwealth of Independent States summit, which brings together former Soviet nations for regional dialogue.
Putin told Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian that Moscow is ready to do everything possible to help resolve the crisis. Interfax reported the exact words used during their conversation in the Caspian nation. The Russian leader emphasized that Iran has already made real efforts to stop a war that broke out without any fault of its own. He also pointed to what he described as a positive evolution in ties between Tehran and Moscow over recent months.
Moscow previously offered mediation help via phone call on Wednesday, according to IRNA news agency reports from Iran. That diplomatic push happened after the pair met last month at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Kyrgyzstan. Both nations face heavy Western sanctions yet continue to strengthen their military and diplomatic connections despite the pressure. They signed a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty last year that covers trade, science, culture, education, and military cooperation.
Critics from Ukraine and Western countries claim Iran supplies Shahed drones and short-range missiles used by Russia in its war against Kyiv. Russia faces similar accusations for sharing data with Tehran regarding attacks on US targets in the Middle East region. These tensions exist while diplomatic efforts to stop fighting in both Ukraine and the Middle East seem completely deadlocked right now.
US President Donald Trump stated Thursday that Washington will not strike Iran before the November 3 midterm congressional elections. He said current talks between the two countries are productive even though they appear stuck at an impasse. Meanwhile, attacks keep intensifying on both sides while diplomats struggle to find common ground for peace agreements.
